Before you begin live-streaming you need to consider what equipment to purchase. I have made a list of items that have been helpful to me as a live-streamer through the years as well as specific products I have chosen. I am suggesting these products because I have either had success with them or have heard of others finding them helpful.
1. A Webcam
This one is obvious! As far as webcams go you don't need to spend too much money for great quality. The brand that I have used and that many people would recommend are Logitech webcams. I get the newest model roughly every 2-3 years for enhanced quality. Right now I am using the Logitech C930e 1080P HD Video Webcam. This brand has brought me excellent streaming quality for over five years. Another option that some webcam girls use is to stream using their DSLR camera instead of a webcam. This can be difficult to set up, but this option offers amazing video quality. One of the most recommended DSLR cameras for live streaming is the Canon EOS 80D camera.
2. A Computer
The computer you choose will be based on your personal preference and budget. I would suggest getting something with a fast processor and at least 8GB of RAM. We will go over three options that you can choose from. The first option is a laptop. This is my favorite option because it is mobile and has a built in keyboard. After using a few laptops I have found success with the Apple MacBook Air. It is lightweight, has a fast processor, and 8 GB of RAM. Just because I like Apple computers doesn't mean you will. I suggest you shop around before choosing one. I know a new webcam model on a budget opted for a tablet and wireless keyboard instead. She uses the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 with a keyboard. The last option is a desktop PC. This option is not as mobile as the previous options, but is a great choice if you need even more RAM or processing power on your computer. Gamers should consider this option. I personally built my own PC.
Lighting is important if you want to enhance the visual quality of your video stream. It makes your cam look more desirable by adding brightness and color. I have found that the best options for me are ring lights. I use a small and very inexpensive ring light that clips on my laptop called the KobraTech Selfie Light Ring. You want to get the right balance of color which I do by using different lamps and light bulbs. I have used more professional lighting products in the past such as umbrella lights and bicolor LED lights which are both great options.
4. A Bluetooth Speaker
If you watch many live streamers you may notice that most of them have music playing in the background. The way I play music has always been through a bluetooth speaker. I would highly suggest taking a look at the Sony SRSX11 Portable Bluetooth Speaker. This product was recommended to me years ago and I have used the same speaker ever since. It is very small and easy to move around, has speakers on all sides for a fuller sound, and has survived being dropped and abused for over 3 years. I love this speaker so much!
5. A Microphone
While most computers or webcams offer built in microphones it never hurts to upgrade to a better quality one when you can afford it. This will allow you to focus in on sounds while producing the least amount of white noise. A brand that I own and have heard of as being popular amongst live-streamers is Blue Yeti. This microphone is heavy with a stable base. It feels very high quality and I would highly recommend this brand.
These are just a few options that I feel you need to get started. You may find that you need more equipment in the future so use this as a base and figure it out as you go!
